Today we conclude our little Décor Quick Tip series on awesome things to do with old reclaimed doors…

#27  Give an old salvaged door a second life by transforming it into an one-of-a-kind Shabby Chic table. A full size internal or external door can easily serve as a 8-seater dining table. If your door has panelling or moulding, place a sheet of glass on top for a smooth surface to dine on. Smaller or narrower doors like those of old cabinets and armoires can also make for interesting rustic coffee and side tables, or as a beautiful console table in a foyer or hallway…

Can you believe this is Part Four of our little Décor Quick Tip series on awesome things to do with old reclaimed doors… and there is still a couple DIY door ideas left to explore!

#26  Why not combine two hot décor trends – repurpose an old found door by converting it into a quirky chalkboard! Shop for a character-filled salvaged door with interesting moulding, recessed panels,  or a frame with rustic textures like flaking paint. Decide on the area you want to paint with chalkboard paint – it can be the whole door or just the door insets. You can even paint the glass panes of an old French door – hang it on the wall horizontally… it makes for an excellent chalkboard day planner to organize your week! Also keep in mind that your chalkboard door does not necessarily have to be the traditional chalkboard black – chalkboard paint now comes in a multitude of funky colours…

#25  Looking for a quirky yet practical DIY project? Transform an old door headed for the dump into an upcycled bookcase or shelf unit! Choose a door with loads of interest – preferably something with moulding and recessed panels. Bracket reclaimed timber shelves directly to the solid door or remove the door inset panels for a more “floaty-looking” shelf unit. Another interesting idea is to half the door to create awesome corner shelves. Leave your door bookshelf rustic and peeling or paint it a glossy bright colour for a sleeker look!

#24  Repurpose old salvaged doors by transforming them into quirky mirrors. Browse flea markets and thrift stores for doors with lots of interest – moulding, recessed panels, carved insets, or rustic textures like flaking paint all add tons of character. Lean it against a wall to serve as an awesome full-length mirror or mount it on the wall horizontally to create an attention-grabbing focal point!

#23  Add oodles of character to any bedroom by transforming old solid timber doors into a one of a kind headboard! Any salvaged door with interest or moulding will work, whether it’s vintage or slightly new. Rickety barn doors or weathered, paint-peeling farm doors will add a rustic shabby chic element to your bedroom or repurpose louvre doors for a French county or seaside flair. Leave the doors distressed or give it a glossy coat of paint.
