I am sure most of you have seen the hilarious “How to make a Braai Pie” video that recently launched Suzelle DIY – “a bitesize do-it-yourself webseries” – into local stardom.
I can completely understand why Suzelle has taken country by storm. There is something so distinctly South African about her quirky yet helpful DIY clips. Her humorous portrayal of a certain Afrikaans stereotype is SO easy to relate to and love. I especially love the videos that feature Suzelle’s silent and awkward best friend, Marianne.
In the video above Suzelle walks us through creating a beautiful terrarium – a perfect and creative gift for a friend or loved one. D.I.Why? Because anybody can!
Interesting titbit: Suzelle is the alter ego of Capetonian designer, artist and illustrator Julia Anastasopoulos. Julia’s beautiful hand drawn works can be seen all around town – on the walls and windows of some MyCiti bus stations, as well as a gorgeous illustrated mural in the children’s section of The Book Lounge in Roeland Street. Julia, who has a background in theatre, teamed up with talented filmmaker and animator Ari Kruger to create the beautifully styled and shot Suzelle DIY.
Suzelle is fabulous! Such a clever concept and so South African as you said! I’ve seen Julia’s beautiful illustrations before but didn’t realise that she and Suzelle were one and the same. Talented lady.
I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that little titbit. Multi-talented lady indeed. I’m super impressed.
