Sneak Peek: Shawarminator

I know we’ve been a bit scarce here at The Tabloid the past month or two – it’s because our studio has been super hard at work on some awesome interior design projects.

In fact, our latest project is having its grand opening today! Yay! The project, Shawarminator, is a trendy Levantine shawarma take-away shop in Cape Town. We haven’t yet had a chance to have some professional snaps taken, so we thought we’d share a couple 3D model views just to get your design glands salivating.

Now we want to keep most of the juicy details in the bag until we get those photos taken, however we can divulge that the Shawarminator shawarmas are absolutely delicious. So if you are in the Durbanville area tomorrow, be sure to drive by check it out – it’s in the Sonstraal iPic Centre on the corner of Verdi Blvd & Langeberg Rd!

Oh and keep an eye out for our follow-up post!

Lovely Local Kiddies Wallpaper

By Marica

One of the easiest ways to incorporate instant fun and playfulness into your child’s bedroom or playroom is to buy a roll or two of quirky wallpaper. I think one can easily underestimate the power of well-chosen wallpaper – it has this amazing ability to tie all the décor elements of your room together.

Rose and I were recently reminded of just this fact. We are currently working on a very exciting interior design project and had a striking wallpaper custom designed to fit the space. Boy oh boy, did that wallpaper tie it all together – it complements our design perfectly. BUT more on that later, we’ll be sure to share the project with you once it’s completed!

Now, back to wallpaper! As we’ve said in past posts on kids’ bedrooms (read them here & here) it is very important to gift your child with a unique space that will encourage imagination and make your little monkey feel extra special! Wallpaper can add the interest needed to make your little boy or girl’s room the envy of the whole neighbourhood. You don’t have to paper the whole room – just a small feature wall can make the world of difference.

Need a bit of inspiration? Check out these funky wallpaper designs –all from local South African designers! I have to say I’m super proud of our local peeps – they are SO talented! The wallpapers below are either available through Robin Sprong or Design Kist – please see the image captions for more info…

Leila Fanner’s Beautiful Experiment!

By Marica

Rose and I were tickled pink when we spotted these stunning images on illustrator Leila Fanner’s Facebook page this morning. You might remember Leila as the talented lady who designed Design Monarchy’s beautiful logo (we did an interview with her: here). Well, it seems Leila is opening a little collaborative shop in Riebeek Kasteel and has been experimenting with painting her lovely designs on various ceramic pieces.

Leila, we sure hope the experimentation in a resounding success because we LOVE it – this would make a gorgeous new additions to your product range! Leila Fanner, Ceramic Artist – it’s got a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?!

To find out more about the Creative Collective and Leila’s experimental first steps into the world of ceramic artistry, check out her website: here.

Décor Dictionary: Chaise Longue

{click to enlarge}

Today we are defining a furniture item as old as the mountains…

Chaise Longue: (French for “long chair”) is a low upholstered sofa in the shape of a chair that is long enough to support outstretched legs when reclining. This blend of chair and daybed originated in Egypt and is almost as old as the Egyptian empire itself.
