With Christmas only a couple of weeks away we created a snapshot view of 10 awesome items we feel will make beautiful Christmas gifts…this is pretty much my Christmas wishlist! Enjoy and happy Christmas shopping!
1. Persian Tin Soap from Woolworths – the soap is divine…but the gorgeous tin is the show stopper!
2. You see the Le Creuset Strawberry range everywhere nowadays but it doesn’t make this Flower Ramekin with Lid any less desirable! You’ll find most Le Creuset products on Yuppie Chef.
3. I really applaud Mr Price Home for their Proudly South African range of products. Just goes to show you that being patriotic can be affordable! Love the cushions!
4. Drool-worthy bangle set from Truworths.
5. I love these quirky hand-painted ceramic polka dot milk jugs from Ck-ramics. If you are in the Cape Town area, I know that Ck-ramics are currently showing their wares at the Edgemead Christmas market. Gorgeous!
6. Beautiful Turkish Bowls from Poetry.
7. Totally in love with this Nautical Satchel from Truworths (psst…to members of my family and friends…hint hint hint)
8. Funky Geometric Silk Scarf from Woolworths.
9. Loads of Living has a stunning range of tea towels with vintage-inspired designs.
10. Okay, so this item is NOT under R200 BUT it’s well worth the slurge (ag, it’s just R20 extra!). If you have ever been to Knead Bakery in Muizenberg you will know that it’s really something special! And now Evan Faull from Knead has launched this AWESOME cookbook, Café Food at Home. I know it’s available from selected Exclusive Books and Woolworths stores. Truly a must-have!

10 Bathroom Accessories Under R200

An economical way for your bathroom to remain beautiful and timeless is by keeping it a blank canvas. Investing in quality contemporary finishes in neutral colours will allow you to change the look of your bathroom regularly by just switching out a handful of décor items and colours. I have noticed in most homes that bathrooms are either cold and bare or, on the other end of the scale, uncoordinated and filled with unnecessary fiddly bits. Here is a little budget inspiration for your bathroom…

Buy good quality white towels as a basis, like this "10 Year Towels" from Weylandts (R199 each) and one or two less expensive towels in a colour of choice. The splashes of colour will serve as accent without dominating and since coloured/dyed towels wear and fade far quicker you don't have to spend piles of money on them. The striking purple towel is from Mr. Price Home (R69.99) and the aubergine towel from @Home (R80.00)

This beautiful waste basket is made out of recycled paper, available from Weylandts at R179.00. Select a non-translucent bathroom bin - nobody wants to so what you toss away...

Add a couple of colourful tea candle holders - keep it simplistic (remember - no fiddly bits!). These beautiful glass holders can also serve as funky ear-bud containers. The ribbed tea light holder is R15.99 and the other one R5.99, both from Mr. Price Home

I find the average soap dish to be extremely boring. If you can't find something beautiful like this grey lace soap dish from The Pause Room (77.00) use interesting side-plates or butter dishes: The funky purple side plate is from Woolworths (R29.95) and the gorgeous silver leaf dish is from Farriers (R60.00)

I love this funky fabric Laundry Bin, and it is collapse-able for easy storage when empty. R129.00 from @Home

Candles are a must! Make sure they are scented - a bathroom should always smell as beautiful as it looks! The candles above are R49.00 each, all from @Home.

Just like the soap dishes, I find toothbrush holders extremely drab! Rather opt for a beautiful glass tumbler or interesting container. The stained glass tumblers show above are perfect as they won't appear dirty too quickly. The amethyst glass is from Mr Price Home (R29.99) and the platinum mist tumbler is from @Home (R39.00)

Don't forget some gentle handmade glycerine soaps! Always beautiful. These two tone soap bars are from The Pause Room (R30.00 each)

This gorgeous bold purple bath mat immediately caught my attention. The pebbled surface aids to the water absorption and is seriously funky. Beautiful! Available from @Home for R119.00

Most people are afraid to put art work in their bathrooms, but if you have the wall space - go for it! I love these simplistic yet trendy geometric prints: Available through Etsy, it is by an US design company called Acquired Design. It works out to about R100.00 each (ex shipping) Not bad at all!)

Rose is in the process of writing various articles for RISKsa on the impact our work & office surroundings has on us – a great percentage of companies struggle to get away from the anal sterile mundane corporate image. It made me think about my own desk space at work – it’s (usually) neat & tidy, and functional – overall quite office-y (not very creative). Am I wrong in assuming that we all want our work environment (whether it’s your office, cubicle or home study) to be conducive to creative thinking? It should be an area that we feel comfortable in and reflects a part of who we are. To find a balance between functionality, style and clutter I went on a hunt to find some trendy items for my desk – all under 200 bucks…

I don't know about you but I am addicted to quirky and clever storage boxes and containers (they look smashing on a open shelf). These funky map storage boxes are from @Home, a set of 3 costs R189.00! We have similar boxes at our Studio - we use it to store all our fabric samples.

Dump those ordinary plastic stationery holders and stick your pens and pencils in cute jars or cups - like these beautiful wooden cups from Deep Dark Africa, R80 a pop.

I love a desk lamp with a slightly industrial look to it - it works with pretty much any style and interior. These stylish brushed steel Gooseneck Lamps are from Woolworths @ R170.00

A quirky journal or diary is a must! These colourful handmade Italian journals are (like Vicki from I Want That always says) one of my "lust haves". You can order them form Ciak's website - the most expensive one is R199.00

I thought this was quite a clever idea. It's a photo frame with a little chalkboard section and areas where you can clip & attach quick notes, business cards or images. Mr. Price Home @ R 139.99

Great source of oxygen, get one today! NO FAKES PLEASE! Okay, seriously now, there is something comforting about having a small potted plant on your desk - choose one that smells nice or that blooms regularly. This pretty Anthurium is from Woolworths @ R 179.99

SO cool! I love these funky bookends from Quirky Me - R 150.00 for a set of 2. Like we have said before: typography is very trendy right now. Anything with letters & number or words and I'm in love!

Now I know we had nothing good to say about Damask in the past, but I think we can make an exception for this pretty damask cut-out bin from Mr. Price, only R 199.99
Boring and cluttered desk be gone!
